Dayton’s Sustainability Efforts Yield Significant Progress

Dayton’s commitment to sustainability has led to substantial advancements in recent years. The city has successfully completed 80 out of 102 planned sustainability projects, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and promoting renewable energy use across municipal operations and the broader community.

Key achievements include securing $36 million in grants, allocating $3.3 million for weatherization and energy efficiency programs, and implementing solar arrays at brownfield sites and Dayton International Airport. Additionally, the city has adopted an electric vehicle procurement policy and invested in infrastructure, adding over 40 new charging ports.

These initiatives have resulted in significant cost savings, totaling $29 million for the city and its residents. Looking ahead, Dayton plans to develop a new 10-year sustainability plan, continuing projects in solar energy, electric vehicles, home repair, and workforce development.
